STC partners met in Athens for the 4th Transnational Project Meeting

Athens, Greece | January 21-22, 2026

Dear readers,

This month, partners of the Sustainable Textile Counselor (STC) project gathered in Athens to move an important step forward: turning planning into action.

Our discussions centered on a key question for the textile sector:

How can the industry improve the analysis of its major sustainability challenges — and translate that understanding into

practical solutions with hands on examples?

The meeting strengthened collaboration between partners and ensured that our work stays closely aligned with the real

needs of the industry.

A major focus of the meeting was the implementation of the Sustainable Textile Counselor course across Europe.

The course is designed to equip interested people with:

  • Practical sustainability tools

  • Industry-relevant knowledge

  • Skills to guide companies toward more responsible textile decisions

We also worked intensively on flexibility. The course structure supports:

  • E-learning and self-paced modules

  • Evaluating study options in the evenings or on weekends

  • Participation for people working full- or part-time

Our goal is clear: make high-quality sustainability education accessible, inclusive, and compatible with real working lives, so everyone involved in the textile sector can actively contribute to transforming the textile sector.

Another inspiring topic in Athens was upcycling — rethinking textile waste as a valuable resource.

We discussed practical examples such as old airline uniforms being transformed into new, functional products.

Instead of disposal, materials can find a second life as:

  • Toiletry and cosmetic bags

  • Travel pouches and laptop sleeves

  • Small crossbody bags or accessories

  • Tote bags and storage solutions

By extending the life of textiles and reducing waste, the industry can take meaningful steps toward a more circular and sustainable future.

Warm wishes from the STC team towards an inspiring new year 2026!
