EU Adopts 2025-2030 Working Plan to Drive Sustainability in Textiles

The European Commission has adopted a new working plan under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) for textiles, set to take effect in 2027. This plan prioritizes textiles due to their significant environmental impact and high potential for improvement. Key measures include:

  • Product Lifetime Extension: Promoting durability and repairability to reduce waste and extend the usability of textiles.

  • Material Efficiency: Encouraging the use of sustainable materials and minimizing resource consumption during production.

  • Environmental Impact Reduction: Addressing water usage, waste generation, climate change, and energy consumption.

  • Information Transparency: Introducing requirements for clear product information, which will work in synergy with the Textile Labelling Regulation, currently under review.

These measures aim to empower consumers, reduce environmental impacts, and create new opportunities for businesses in the textile sector.
